Just came across this on FB. Traditionally tryouts in our area happen after the summer season, but they are getting earlier and earlier. Tryouts for the next year before summer even begins, is a new one to me though.

What are your thoughts on this?

[team name] will immediately begin holding private tryouts for our 2nd year 14U team for next year. We are looking to become a nationally competitive team with families and athletes who understands the grind, commitment level, and sacrifice that comes along with it. We do plan to practice at a minimum of 3 times a week together with the expectation of athletes working an additional 3 days on their own. We will practice between Kent, Auburn, and Bellevue and will look to compete in nationally qualified tournaments which will require travel.

Our team will hold a minimum of 14 athletes but are willing to hold a maximum of 17 if necessary. We are looking to fill the following roles:
- 2 pitchers who have mastered a pitch that changes speed and a pitch that moves up and down or vertically with accuracy
- 2 catchers with great game IQ, strong and accurate arms, and who knows how to command the field
- 2 outfielders who can cover ground and has strong arms
- 2 utility players. One who is a middle infield specialist and the other who is a corners specialist. These positions need to have solid game IQ with the desire to grow, learn and compete.
- all athletes above need to also be an offensive threat in one way or another. We need athletes who can get on base through their speed and savviness. Athletes who can move runners through their gap to gap hitting capabilities. And then we need power hitters who can score runners on base.
- must want and have the desire and understanding of what it might take to compete at the next level.
- Previous high level travel ball experience expected.

If you believe your athlete is this or can be this. Please contact me asap for a private tryout

Let me rephrase.
A level team just need 2 A level pitchers, 2 A level catchers, A level second, A level CI, 2 A level outfielders to surround my C level daughter shortstop. Will cut 5-7 players as they are not talented enough to allow my kid to play at a level she is not skilled enough for.

So they haven't qualified or been invited to any of these tournaments??? They are trying hard!

Haha run away.. All of those bullet points are ridiculous! And private tryout because the team doesn't exist or they are terrible.

This is not how good teams are made.
At first I was thinking, they are looking for a few players to help them with their summer run which can happen. But yeah, looking for 8 players? And 2 are catchers, which tells me they have a 3rd string catcher that is really a 3rd string 1B. It's almost comical if it wasn't so sad.

We are looking to become
Fair enough to have goals.
They added lots of details. Which obviously is either going to be appreciated or scrutinized.

It appears they want to set themselves apart from the casual 50%ers. The people who may not be interested in such a formal approach to playing softball. Which can be a good thing to get to the point quickly.

Fine to me. Covers answers to lots of good questions people should be asking if they're interested in playing for a new team.
