soonershok -
to put into words what you're seeing in that gif - bat drag is when both elbows get ahead of the hands in the swing - you end up dragging the bat through the zone. VERY prevalent in the youth swing. Ideally, the hands should remain between the elbows (thus the references to turning the triangle, or rock the U) - elbow-hands-elbow, not elbow-elbow-hands.

While it's been argued that the cause is more of a strength issue (since a lot of kids seem to grow out of it), personally I believe it to be more a mechanics issue. The drills suggested by Eric and Pattar should help your daughter learn the correct sequencing - it's not just a matter of moving body parts A, B, & C correctly, it's also a matter of moving A before B, B before C, etc.

That would help a lot...but I don't know the proper sequencing myself or what errors to look out for which is why I'm here. To me her swing seems ok...I just notice a distinct lack of power and knew something just isnt right.

While I always get the feeling that the videos are longer than necessary, the swing analysis put out by “maximumbatspeed” on you tube does a good job of breaking down and walking you through most of the elite softball player’s swings.

The extensive use of slow motion video, and accompanying narration, may help give you an idea of what’s missing, or what can be done better, in your daughters swing.

Also search Antonnelli Softball - he’s done a ton of baseball videos, but seems to have quietly started pushing out some softball-specific ones as well.

Take some slow motion (or actual!) swings yourself - sometimes conveying the “feel” of a move is more effective than trying to help her copy another player’s movement.

1 drill you can do is stand behind her, catcher view, and hold a bat directly under hers (stretch out the bat/arm). She then must swing without dropping her bat like she does in the clip. If she flattens out her bat she will make contact with the one your holding.

Sounds like you are attempting to describe this Yeager drill here ....

I don't know what TTB is???

TTB = Turn the barrel

What we see in high-level swings is the barrel being "turned" (from launch position to contact) by the hands/forearms, with the hands being the center-point of rotation ("hand pivot point").

Thank you for explaining that to me. I appreciate it
