I had this exact play a couple of months ago, except in my case it was me who was holding up 3 fingers and repeatedly saying thats only 3 batter, thats only 3. Catcher was literally standing on home plate holding the ball, runner had to stop and reach in with her foot to touch the base and catcher just stood there looking at her while holding the ball.

How hard is it to teach players when they are allowed to run on a DTS? And until the umpire calls them out, running in a live DTS situation is OK and expected if they are unsure whether the ball has been caught or dropped.

The task is to coach and teach the player WHEN the DTS IS the situation and in effect.

Yes, yes, yes. If they're 14U or older and still running after EVERY strike out, IMO somebody hasn't done their coaching job very well.

I think that ump was trying to simplify the game for himself. If that were true... a drag bunt is deception. An off speed pitch is deception... what a moron
