And just why are there stupid rules like this that have little to no bearing on the game or safety of the participants?

I think the rationale is that during the playoffs some teams have to travel several hours, and allowing batting practice gives the home team an unfair advantage. But keep in mind that this is the same organization that took someone's pole vault title away because she wore a friendship bracelet (violating the no jewelry rule). Part of the problem is that the organization has only one possible sanction, which is disqualification.

Wow. Just, wow. Unbelievable. No batting practice on the day of the game. Can they take batting practice after the game and still get DQed?

I wondered about that too. I wouldn't put it past them.

The player who tosses the ball should be on a knee and to the side of the batter.

Well, I haven't used soft toss from the side for many years, but when I did - I sat on a bucket. I guess we would be disqualified. I don't see much difference if any, between soft toss, and tossing whiffles from the front.
