Camera/ Software

Christmas is coming and I am asking Santa for a new video camera and some Analysis software. So, what is a good video camera to get? I don't really want the top of the line, but I do want something that will be compatible with good software. I would also like it to take good still pictures.
Also, what is some good software to get?

Undergroundga---I tried a few different types of analysis software (some paid and some free) but found the best and cheapest out there is PowerChalk. PowerChalk®. I really like it because it is internet based so there are no software upgrades, you just login, upload your photos or videos, and your are off and running.

I use it with my iPhone and it works great.
