In football you can play 4 games and still redshirt . How come nobody complains about that?

To be honest, none of us can tell you whether your dd will get something out of the expense of TB. Most of us have benefited but not to the same degree. My dd was not a PO but was her TB team's #1. They did exceeding well in tournaments and played in 7 states each year. It did cost us money. She did not pitch in college. However, the experience in the circle helped her develop so much more than just a softball player. She is a strong and assertive young lady who doesn't take any smack from anyone. She remains true blue and loyal to those girls she played with. Those girls were all in her wedding. It was a huge wedding but we couldn't leave anyone out. She gained a college education.

We were fortunate and our situation was not like most. Most people are going to have to pay something for that college education. We were fortunate and paid very little. Don't ignore that if your dd's goal is to play at a higher level and in college, her ability to gain academic financial help is critical to help pay for college.

"Almost all P5 pitchers are on full rides.. or a better statement would be they are zero out of pocket."
BT,
If pitchers absorb say 4 scholarships, say at least a catcher goes full, as well as say another top talent in the field, that does not leave alot to spread among the other 20 players on the roster. Would that be a fair assessment?
Always thought the parents who were secretly counting on softball scholarship were engaged in delusional thought. (edit: of course, we didn't bump elbows with the top SB teams)

This is why softball coaches interested in gpa. Softball plus academics plus grants.

Not anytime soon, but the costs and commitment over the next 5 years are swimming in my head. Is it really worth it? It seems crazy to even do this. If she’ll get something out of it to improve and help with her dreams, at least I can justify the craziness. But she’s basically a PO.

Oh, it's not worth it at all.

Playing as much softball as we do is certainly taking money and time away from other things. But we want our kids to have a good childhood, and we support them best we can.

Yes. It depends on the school too. Some schools are allowed to stack athletic and academic and others are not.. school rules.
Most schools that allow stacking could provide 50% athletic and 50% academic which stretches out the athletic money quite a bit. That said every team has a group of players who are either only academic money or very little athletic money.

One thing I’ve found at 12-U PGF Nationals is that spin, location, and change of speed become way more important than speed. Girl who has arguably been the best 12-u pitcher in the country got rocked pretty hard in one game.
