Another positive (not softball) girls’ sports story (wrestling!)

Today the Illinois High School Association announced they will be hosting a girls’ State Tournament in wrestling starting next year!

I’m not a wrestling guy, but I’ve known a few girls/women who did wrestle. This is great news as they were always subject to scrutiny and controversy wrestling against boys.

According to this article 837 girls wrestled at the IHSA level last year, almost double the number just two years before.

two of my catching students are wrestlers also. Younger ones dad who competed in college is a H.S. wrestling coach of 17 years. Says its one team
"The wrestling team"
Said he welcomes anyone to the team.
Talks about how its a sport that because of weight class categories presents good competition because of strategy.

The older H.S. student has a larger size body which she can clearly manuever well. She is super nice.
I call her "Body Slam"
