I am somewhat bothered that all the medicine ball references in the literature go back to this single Szymanski study. What about [1], which saw no difference in bat speed when adding med ball programming to 8-13 year-old softball players?
I say this as someone who is actually a big fan of...
Strength and power training are important for long-term athletic development and injury prevention, but is there a dividing line between a baseline level an athlete should maintain after which we wouldn't see good transfer of improvements to sports-specific outcomes?
This example is all made...
I haven't. Driveline has videos showing the baseball version in various machines working fine and advertise them for machine use. I have used them in lever-action (Louisville Blue Flame) machines. I will use them in our old wheel-action machines in the spring.
I am a fan of Blast sensors and batted ball outcomes. I generally like the Blast for bat speed and hand speed metrics. But I don't go back and review the simulated swing video stuff in the Blast. I'd rather watch the full training session and preferably a few training sessions.
Don't overthink...
I bought a dozen of the Driveline softball smash balls. I plan to order another dozen - I really like them for front flips and from one of those spring-using pitching machines. I am particularly excited about using them in preseason hitting in early winter. Our high school team doesn't have...
Nice work on the bat speed increases - bat speed plays and it is a tool she will need against faster pitching. More bat speed combined with barreling the ball up is NEVER a negative . . .
I see this problem a lot with travel players on our middle and high school teams. Pitching speed is...
I'm coming from the opposite place working with players in middle and high school. Meaning, athletes come out for softball who are brand new to the game and have no outside instruction or experience. Some are interested in pitching and I would LOVE to feel confident about starting pitchers "on...
