Best team type for college prep

Being in the right place at the right time can be important. At the tournaments the coaches she wants to see her and on the field when they are there watching. The crux of the issue is prior communication with the coaches she wants to see her, doing a good job of getting the coaches interested...

I bit my lip and turned away...

They don't have to. The newspapers and other teams say more than enough about thier kids. I've come to the conclusion that parents/coachs that talk a lot about how great thier players and teams are...usually aren't. The ones that just smile and nod at you...better bring your A game.

    Assistant Coach

Not in my experience, especially for practice plans. Line ups, opinions are sometimes asked for. Kind of a "I'm thinking this. What do you think?" Input may or may not effect the existing line up.

    bullet spin

Honestly, I don't know. But your explaination makes sense. I didn't calculate it. I pulled it off the ballistic data card for the specific round when putting one down range. My basic understanding of physics agrees with your statement.

When does/did your DD wear a Defensive Face Mask?

The mask started out as just when pitching. Over the past couple years it's become as much a part of her uniform as knee pads and batting helmet.

    bullet spin

Uh, oh. Starsnuffer and I went all gun geek again. Sorry.

    bullet spin

Look up the term 'spin drift' as it relates to sniping and long range accuracy. It's accounted for in the shot calculations. At shorter ranges spin stabilises the bullet, at extended range it causes the bullet to drift in the direction of rotation. My daughter throws a bullet spin fastball...

Here is a nice article on Taryne Mowatt

Lozza, That is exactly straight out of 'A League of Their own'. That photo is from the home opener in June. They had 5 or 6 ladies who played in that league as special guests and did a tribute thing for them as pioneers of women athletes who helped open doors for womens sports and helped us...

    NSA, ASA, Pony, USSSA???

My opinion, there isn't a ton of difference between them in my area. I only have experience with NSA and ASA. I've never seen a Pony or USFA tournament around here. USSSA exists but the tournaments are far enough away that trying to compete there would drive up our costs too much. Our...

    Cues

Same here Good Miss for when I think it should be a strike. Good Miss, you're right on it for the ones that hit the backstop or bounce 2 feet in front of the plate. That gets her to laugh and relax a bit.

Why I do not advocate 8u TB

It really depends on the facility. Eastside Center in Peoria never has a gate fee, sometimes has no cooler signs up but never enforces them. When we go there we grill in the parking lot between games for those who want to avoid the concessions. Champion Fields in Bloomington, always has a...

    hitting bottom of the ball

Check the rear elbow during thier swing. If it is getting ahead of the back hip, it's a common cause of the bat head dropping and causing pop ups for my kids.

    NSA "A" Nationals Chattanooga, TN

Ha! We can't come play for you guys yet. We still have the future goal of beating the Pride. :D Maybe after that gets checked off the to do list. :p

    NSA "A" Nationals Chattanooga, TN

Public appeal wins. Consolidation of the info I got from non-softball forums (yeah they exist, wierd). the terminal is really good, I have been to McHales in Hixson, the one Jefe is probably talking about, and I will say I was not impressed with their beer (everything had the same burned...

    NSA "A" Nationals Chattanooga, TN

We'll be there Prideguy. I'll have to dig up the research I did and get it to you. 4 recommended brew pub/eateries minimum. Then Mellow Mushroom pizza place, supposed to have really good pizza and 40 beers on tap. Definitely on my personal to do list.

How much time do you take off after nationals?

None. During the 12u years our girls miss the first week of school ball tryouts to go to Nationals. As soon as they get back they start in with school ball practices and play out the MS season. Travel ball tryouts for the next summer are in August. MS ball post season ends in late September...

Hitting is the hardest part of the game

The only way a players is going to become a good hitter is to practice at home. My philosophy on this. Team practice is where you get instruction from your coaches. What to fix and how to fix it and a few reps to make sure you understand what is being taught. Outside of team practice is...

    Fielders mask for 8u DD

My daughter has used the gameface and the rip-it. She's settled on the rip-it because 'it's cooler on hot days'. The more open design lets more air through I guess. Visibility has never been mention as a difference, nor weight suggested as a factor.
