Do you mean for all organizations/teams? Plenty of teams around here hold tryouts and hope just to get enough players to have a team. True National teams are a whole different animal.
He’s talking about the super, duper 10U teams with a bunch of kids who would be committed to OU had the rules not changed..

This part

"most kids that get on National teams are not just showing up at the regular tryouts. They’re either “already on the team” and just going through the motions, or they had a private tryout and are not required to show up to the general tryouts."

You must be drunk, cause I have no ideal what you are talking about.
You must be playing dumb...wait, nvm, you don’t have to play (hint: I was being hyperbolic)

Were you not talking about that it applies to “good” teams at the 10U level as well? Eg you were feeling left out with all the 16’s and 18’s talk so you needed to chime in.

Do some National Teams displace players if better players come to their tryout?
We saw that happen this summer when a girl who was on my daughter's team was told they didn't think she could handle the National competition. They offered her a spot on a regional team, but she wound up leaving the organization to go to a lesser organization's national team. Granted, they did so because they knew they had a few 14U girls coming up to the 16U tryouts from other organizations.

When I said, “Already on the team,” I meant that they didn’t even have to tryout at all. The coach had recruited them from elsewhere because they already knew how good they were or pulled them up through their organization from a younger team. I didn’t mean girls who were already on the team from the previous season.

I know I was agreeing with you, and saying it happens in all age groups.
