Happy Halloween!
I have 4 daughters 3 who play softball. My DD2 is an accomplished 10U pitcher playing the end of her 1st year of TB in which she pitched for first time in January. In all this is her 4th year playing softball but the first year in TB. Her sisters who are 9 and 7, have been to a lot of games and pitching lessons and practices in the driveway so I'm guessing some of this has rubbed of on them!
The 9 year old is playing Little League in her first season on the same team with the 7 year old. On Saturday two of our main pitchers were out for a travel tournament and one of the girls who usually pitches when the travel girls are gone was hurt so we only had one pitcher. Coach asked me if it was ok with me if he asked her to pitch and of course I said sure! She has practiced with me a few times and runs around the house practicing her pitching motion every chance she gets but that's about it. No pitching lessons and no consistent practice with me or anyone. So she got put in in the 3rd inning of the game and she did great! First inning of work she struck out 2 and only went to coach pitch one time! 2nd inning she kept throwing strikes and the ball got hit a couple of times and the girls made some errors (as expected in minor little league) and she gave up 5 runs (max in this league). She was upset after the inning because of the score but I had to inform her that she did her job! She threw strikes and although the ball got hit and runs scored on errors she should feel good about how she did! So, to my surprise, she listened, calmed down and went back out there and in her third inning she struck out another batter and only gave up one run with no coach pitch. As proud as I get watching my older daughter pitch I think I may have felt just as proud watching this little one go. She was so brave and surprised everyone (but me) - including herself!
Love this sport! Can't wait to see what's next!
