My DD has always hit either 2nd or 3rd except last year when she was on a monster hitting team where she batted 6-7. The team she is playing on this year is not very powerful so she it batting 4th (14U). She is well protected by the 5th hitter who has been crushing the ball. She has always been very patient as a hitter with very few strikeouts and a lot of walks. This weekend she got walked 6 times and one HBP in 19 plate PA's. She was 10-12 in the others against a weak field of teams. Some walks were just terrible pitches but a few had some clear balls, but probably could hit them. She rarely swings and misses so if she swings she will likely put ball in play. Is she better off expanding strike zone with runners on base or just staying patient and waiting for a pitch to drive. I'm afraid she will sacrifice OBP for a few more RBI's but maybe that's OK.
