My daughter is 10, just over 5’ and 100 lbs. She’s traditionally been a slower swinger focusing on contact but has made huge leaps and now puts the ball in play often.

The last year and a half she’s been using a DeMarini Spryte 30/18. Since she’s now making better contact and she’s gotten stronger and swinging harder I’m wondering if I should move her to a 30/19 or (gasp) even 31/20?

I doubt there will be anything in the -11 market that will be easier to get through the zone than the Spryte and I really don’t want to mess up her ability to make contact by adding too much weight or length but I am think adding some mass is a good idea now that strikeouts are only happening 1/3 of the time and she’s getting hits 1/3 of the time. My motivation is less about trying to get power and pop (although anything that makes the game more fun is great) and more about thinking about her development in terms of bat weight and length.

So now the questions:

1) I’m sure many of you have been in this situation. Should we go up?

2) If yes, 30/19 or 31/20?

3) Which bat? The -11 market is HUGE! Been thinking about the Prism, LXT, Power CBRN, Mantra +, Meta, all the Ghosts… Basically everything. I’m terrified of moving to something that’s going to feel heavy and hard for her to make contact with but think that something must work.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtfulness!

Okay, here's a method you can use to determine if a bat is too heavy or not. If you have a store you can try out several bats, go there and have her start her swing. Once she starts, have her check her swing. If she is able to stop the swing in time for it to not be called a strike, then she can handle the weight. If the bat drags her through the zone, it's too heavy.

Regardless of the bat length, weight, or model this trick works. If you're trying to keep it with a light swing weight, you can't beat the DeMarini CF. The Mizuno would be next, and they tend to be less expensive. The other bats you mentioned all tend to swing a bit heavier. But I'll say it again, try them out first. The wrong bat at this age can ruin her confidence.

We do 12 bottom hand and 12 top hand with the Camwood one-hander and 12 with a 30/36 Camwood two-hander 5 times a week.

Sort going from a drop 12 to an 8 seems like a big jump. Worried about going to an 11!!!

My daughter had the red and black echo connect drop 11 and it was an awesome bat for her and our neighbor who is using it now.

(Mine was 5’6” and 90 lbs so it was a 33 -11)

She had a Spryte 32” before - so we added length and drop and she adjusted fine.
