Official scorekeeper credited first base with the put out using the logic that first was the closest defensive player. I think the pitcher should get credit as leaving early is a dead ball call and as such the pitcher was the last player with possession. Who is correct?

It is my understanding that you credit the closest fielder. I would have credited the PO to 1B as well. there's a scoring forum on HSbaseballweb that is VERY good, filled with lots of scorebook geeks who know their stuff. I learned alot there this year.
