They've done _a lot_ of lineup analysis in baseball, and have found very little difference between most alignments. It really comes down to the most logical thing: Bat your best hitters as close to the top as possible, because those players A. Get the most PA over a season and B. make the fewest outs. That's really all you need to know. Giving the people that make the fewest outs the most PA gives the whole team more PA , and there's an obvious HUGE correlation between the team that gets the most PA with the team that wins.
