A couple of teams played last night. Neither team is going to win the State Championship this year. I'm not sure how many D1 players were on the field--possibly none.

Nevertheless, it was a well played game. In total, there were 3 walks and 1 error.

Scored tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 7th with 1 out, runner at 3rd, #9 batter up. The coach "had a feeling" and subs a girl off the bench to bat.

The coach called a safety squeeze. The batter gets the bunt down, 1B fields the ball cleanly, but throws the ball high. Runner slides under the tag...game over.

There is great joy for the winning team, and a lot of sadness for the losing team. There is something to be learned for players and coaches on both team.

The kid scoring the run had only been playing "real" softball for a year...she had never scored the winning run before. The kid who laid down the bunt had never been a hero before.

You can't pay a $1000 at Disneyworld to get that kind of experience. No Hollywood blockbuster will ever deliver that kind of joy.

PS: Sometimes I forget how much fun the kids have when they play the game.
