What do you coach/ teach for technique for a catcher retrieving a ball to the fence particularly with runner on third and getting toss to pitcher covering home is time sensitive!

Pop to feet and field like a bunt? remove or not remove mask? slide to ball on shin guards? others, and opinions on what works best?

thanks

I have taught the method Jay posted above. One thing to ad, keep the mask/helmet on. You are having the catcher aggressively run toward a fence drop to their knees and slide to the ball, if they stumble or, if they misjudge the slide, or if they hit a fence post instead of the fencing. That helmet and mask will provide them protection and help them gain confidence in the technique.

And lefty catchers turn to the right.
