Does anyone know anything about AAU Softball?

Amateur Athlethics Union. A local tournament facility director (ASA) approached daughters coach about registering the team AAU as well as ASA. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge with this sanctioning body or their tournaments?

Yes, but not in softball. The AAU is similar to the ASA for travel sports other than softball, except that it is bigger. E.g., almost all travel basketball teams are registered with the AAU.

I'm sure the AAU wants to get on the travel softball gravy train, and so they are trying to start their own "national" tournament. Why not? There are already a dozen or so "national" champions already--how will a few more hurt?

My guess is that the level of competition will fall somewhere below that of the USSSA for a few years.

Hah! Given the amount of infighting between coaches and parents for their daughters time playing ASA and AAU basketball, it's more likely that the AAU is just trying to set up it's own softball league to keep the players from flocking to softball around "that" time of year.
