It depends how strong a cage you need and how much you want to spend. Last year when our DD was 10, we put up a fairly lightweight trapezoidal cage using 10 foot long 3/4" conduit from the hardware store and 3/4" connectors from a tent/carport kit etailer. Buy netting for a 12 foot height and it will fit fine on the diagonal and give you enough on the ground to keep most balls inside.

If you foresee hard/lengthy use, you can buy 1 3/8 top fence rail for the frame instead and use heavier netting. With the heavier setup, you can go with a square and hang the net inside the frame, you can set the posts in concrete, etc. And of course, it's going to cost more. It depends on how strong and long-lasting you want the cage to be. Good Luck!

Obbay has a good link.

Usually this comes down to budget vs. what your wife will tolerate aesthetically in the backyard. There are a lot of kits sold for more professional looking applications on baseball/softball express and such that might be more visually appealing.

My wife bought one for about $200 on Amazon. It looks pretty sturdy and easy to set up.

We tried to build our own last summer, but it was a mess. As my DD would say, "Epic Fail"
