As a fellow Georgian and a Duke alum I'm very excited for your daughter. I know what a talent she is and wish her nothing but success on the field. I would also point out that at the end her degree will say "Duke" and frankly it won't hurt a bit.
just remember the Ivy League does not offer academic scholarships either. All aid is need based. Of course, with their endowments "need" has a much looser definition.
In the years I've been around the game, and from the coaches I've talked to I feel I have a good grasp on what the MAJORITY look for. Obviously there are variations. Some of this repeats what others said, but here's my list.
1. Keep it short. They get dozens or hundreds. Most coaches will...
You'd be surprised how many countries will do that. I'm pretty sure you don't even have to be a citizen if you have certain other ties to the country. A lot of European teams are on the lookout. I once played with this idea and found some info just googling "________ national softball team"...
There are some excellent "big" names within Florida. Perhaps there may be opportunity there. I do think there is definitely a move to "super-organizations" within the softball community. However, it is just my opinion that certain ones have gotten so big the talent level is diluting the...
Over the years I've seen it done a number of ways, there are variations on uniforms, whether prior year players try out, etc. The bottom line is talent will show and if you crush the ball in a polka dot dress they're going to want you.
They are new - and I'm unaware of any national affiliation. Right now Glory and Firecrackers are the big names from out of state. I'm guessing a few more will be looking at our state in the next couple of years.
NCAA rules are not the same as ASA or high school with regard to rounding first base. I don't mind being corrected by someone with better knowledge, but that may be an out under NCAA rules.
Who would try to field a competitive national travel team at 16U or 18U with less than 16 players? That makes no sense, injuries, substitutions, multiple pitchers. That's the minimum to compete if you're serious
I don't frequent this forum much but I admit this thread caught my attention. I will say up front that I coach travel ball in Georgia, and have for several years. At one time I coached with a major Georgia organization that charged for tryouts. Now I am with one of the clubs that is part of...
You can not be a D1 slapper if you're not under 2.9 to first regardless of your bat control. Any slower and they don't need to respect your short game.
I commend Riseball for thinking outside the box, but, respectfully, there is no way that happens. The coaches don't want that - even those speaking out against early verbals. The schools don't want that because it would have to apply to all sports and there is no way football and hoops let...
Now, my thoughts which I recognize are worth every penny you all are paying for them. It's true that each situation is different and I think the financial side of things has been greatly underplayed here. Given the size of most rosters (particularly D1) and the limited number of scholarships...
While you make some valid points you may want to research before taking a comment about one of the finest schools in the world out of context. And if you don't think "Yale" on your diploma beats out "played for Candrea" 99 times out of 100 you really don't know what the highest paying careers...
Unfortunately. this is no more enforceable than a verbal at the overwhelming majority of D1 schools. Most only have 1 year scholarships which are renewable at the school's discretion. There's nothing to stop a coach from cutting the money if a "better" recruit comes along. It's certainly not...
Mark - although nothing can be official until the admissions department sends out an acceptance in the Ivy League (The Ivies do not use/recognize NLIs), most Ivy schools are still finishing their '17's and just starting to look at '18's.
On the other end - which so many folks neglect - is that the odds of a girl spending 4 years playing softball at the same school are probably below 50% if you include all levels of play. By the time you consider girls who transfer, quit, get cut, injured or just leave school my experience, and...
