My DD used the DeMarini Cat bat (2008 model) as an 8 to 9yo and it was just fine for her. It was used by a new 12u girl last year and is pressed into service again with another 12u girl this year. 4 years and 3 players on a 30 dollar bat. No complaints here. I think the bat would be just...
That's about what our team is going to be doing this year. 9 tournaments scheduled with one of those possibly to be dropped from the schedule. We'll play in either the ASA or NSA northern national depending on qualification and such. I expect our game total to be around 65 - 70 for the year...
12 of my 14 players this year throw right and swing left. Your question is a little general but I'll have a go.
First thing is flip em around and have them swing, swing and swing a little more. A metric butt load is a good amount of swings to aim for.
The first goal is to get over OH MY GOD...
Exactly what PACoach said.
Admittedly I was baiting Lozza a bit which is probably why she didn't answer. Can't blame her, I'm no where near as sneaky as I think I am after midnight. :D
The point I was trying to lead up to was, Who is anyone to judge how anyone else spends thier money? I know...
Agreed $450 is a lot of money. Those who don't want to drop that kind of money have the option of putting a little effort into our organizations fund raiser to offset the out of pocket expense. I paid about $100 of that this year. There were multiple families, some with multiple kids in the...
Softball is only a rich kid sport if you are rich...or need an excuse for something else.
Annual Fees: $450
Glove: Easton A400 $40 clearance 2 years ago
Bat: DeMarni Voodoo pitch black (blemish) $150 2 years ago
Batting Gloves: bought pair on sale last year for $10 each Still have 2 pair in...
What age groups Big Momma? We played the Chi-Town express 12u a couple times last year. DD#3 looks a bit big for a 12u but if memory serves correctly half that team looked like they could have driven themselves to the fields. I gotta see if I can find the picture of my 3rd baseman at bat...
That's exactly what the IL ASA guys are trying to prevent. Seems they have been getting a fair amount of pressure from some of the B teams that have been getting thier heads kicked in on a regular basis to start a C class. Fortunately they know coaches as well as we seem to an knew that if...
Thanks for reminding me of that MTR. I checked my 2010 rule book and it really reads that any team that plays outside thier municipal league would be concidered a travel team and should be registering A. The description of B sounds like the folks that have pulled a bunch of rec or municipal...
In my book doing right by the kids is playing the best competition you can find. Not playing the best teams that you are sure to beat. Playing teams below your competitive level sure isn't going to encourage the kids to work hard to get better if they already think they are awesome because...
Yeah, trophy hunters will still lurk in the B class tournaments. How do you convince the parents of the kids you coach that you are doing right by the kids by finishing in the bottom 25% of the state tournament? I'm wondering if this change might be a deal breaker for some coaches and drive a...
The Illinois ASA has made a change this year to the State tournament format for 10u and 12u. A and B classification will no longer be determined by registration status, but determined by team performance during pool play at the State Tournament.
Copied from the IL ASA State Tournament...
Hey Teddyballgame,
I wish I had some good advice for you. It sounds like some folks have had success with getting spectator draws to thier games. That's awesome.
The just win thing, yeah. That alone isn't the answer. 5 state championships in softball and 4 state championships in baseball...
I've read what you have up on IHSS. It's pure gold. Definitely pull your posts together with the stuff that has been add from others and put it up here. I'd love to see what the wider audiance here would add and what the differences in the process might be in other areas of the country.
Wow, I can't believe I beat Amy to it for once.
Howard Kobata's DVD's for catching, throwing and fielding are very good. Covers the basics well and has progressions that build to more advanced skills.

Last year Oct - Dec was off time. All summer this year she complained that she shouldn't have taken all that time off.
This year she took 2 (forced) weeks off after middle school ball then dropped right into a six day a week training schedule. I wonder if she's over doing it and worry about...
