I heard the announcers, I think Amanda Scarborough, comment on showing the bat regarding a college hitter. She said that the technique was used to help shorten their swing, to keep it from being too long. I sometimes disregard a lot of what most announcers say, but it made logic sense. What...
We still fight the bat drag on occasion, but we have worked to minimize it as much as possible. It's a hard one to fix quick when you look where we started. The field was a smaller field, I'm thinking 175 at the corners. She took it straight away center. Either way, a poke for a 11 yr old...
I found this site in Oct 2012 looking for hitting help for my 9 yr old. After admitting she needed help and receiving hard but fair advice from many of you. We went to work.
We started with this:

and yesterday she hit her first out of the park home run...
If the girl is competitive, I think they all go through this. I want my pitcher to give a crap. I think it gets the best out of them. The more they do it and are in those situations, the less you will see of the ups and downs. My daughter knows, If I see a tear, she gets pulled. Therefore...
I'm going to have a sit down talk with my t-baller tonight and tell her she needs to re-think her goal of playing college softball! Good read by the way.
I agree with this. Give her an inside pitch then pitcher her high. If she is a free swinger, it's hard to lay off a high pitch at 10U. If she does make contact its usually a pop up.
Don't make the score the barometer of success. Set individual goals each game, communicate those goals to the girls and let that be what you talk about at the end of the game. For pitchers can catchers, perhaps have someone keep up with 1st pitched strikes and strike to ball ratio. Early in...
I agree on the ugliness! I guess in marketing its all about seeing and recognizing the product. I think Worth set the standard this year with the 2legit. NO mistaking that bat.
I hate to admit this, but my Vols are a 1 pitcher team. When Renfroe is on the mound, they are for sure a top 5 team. When all the rest are on the mound (ie BYU), look out, its probably not going to be good if their bats go cold. I am really afraid that if TN does not develop a top pitcher...
The older guy in the video speaks with authority so he MUST know what he's talking about! I'm a little disappointed I didn't see a good bug squishing drill.
I am big supporter of fielding masks as well. Yes, it gives them protection, but I have seen more confidence with young players that wear these masks from a young age. When they get older, they feel weird without the mask. I had a dad on one of my Rec teams years ago that would not let his...
Yep, Franklin Flames 02 is one of the strongest teams that I know of in the area.
I coach a new 10U team....MJ Elite 04 out of Mt Juliet. We are cutting our teeth as most of our girls are new to TB. However, we are having a great time and seeing some huge improvement which is fun to watch...
We bought the Easton E500 for our 10U team on ebay. Breaks down to less than $42 per bag. We then took the removable portion from the bag and had them embroidered. They come in just about every color. All our catchers were able to get all their equipment in the bag. Very well made as well...
Crusaders Fastpitch is an A level team in Nashville Area, very well coached.

Nashville Nighthawks is another larger organization in the Nashville Area as mentioned.
Get on Facebook and join Tennessee Fastpitch Player group. I coach a 10U TB team here in Middle TN and there are 12U teams looking for players constantly.

I was a little surprised to see my Lady Vols at the #1 spot. Yes they are returning their #1 pitcher, and other core defensive players, but they lost so much Offensively with Gibson and Chavanne. They will always be tough so it will be fun to watch.
Our Rec league does it in a similar way. Let's say there are 10 teams in the age bracket. We rank the top 10 pitchers and they are picked in round 1 regardless if they want to pitch or not. In our league, if she was one of the top pitchers, she would have to go in round 1. Weather she...
I'm an emotional coach. I don't think I could live with myself. We had the same thing happen to us (10U) last fall. I had a very young 10U team. Half the team was 8U coach pitch girls moving up with the other 4, rec ball players moving to TB. Only my DD (pitcher) had TB experience. At the...
