No disrespect intended but it is as simple as practicing what happens in games. Ready position. If the ball is hit your way field it and throw the runner out. Make sure to use a live runner. Do not hit the ball directly at a fielder. Make them move. Hit them hard grounders. If the ball gets...
At 12 it's probably hard enough just to keep the players attention so keep the goals simple yet productive.
For example: When bunting keep the bat at the top of the strike zone so that the bat never goes up to bunt the ball because you are bunting a ball out of the strike zone, Simple yet...
The responses to this subject tend to relate more to keeping players in motion, grounders, batting etc. I thought about this for a while and while it is commendable to run a 1 coach practice is that really what practice should be about?
People often mistake activity for achievement, quantity...
I always believed having to play a sport where you have to play offense and defense rather than playing clock was preferable.
Shows what I know, my DD was a swimmer as her 2nd sport. Great conditioning.
Please remember that at ages 10u - 13u players can still get away with poor technique and be successful. As the player ages into HS, the runner speed picks up, balls are hit harder, poor technique becomes an issue. So to keep the bat in the lineup the player is moved to the OF.

And what of the subsequent years? Will there be more HS games missed as DD ages? As a HS coach we make sure the team rules on attendance are distributed to parents and players. Conditions for missing a game are: illness, school activity conflict (school play, ACT test, academic issues, etc..)...
If you can't eventually zero in on a flat fast-ball coming at a predictable speed and trajectory...one right after another...I'm not sure you're much of a hitter.
I'm sorry, not all of us have a roster full of college prospects.
We use one of the pitching machines a lot, but not for hitting. We use it for defense ( grounders, pop ups, fly balls, throws to 2nd, throws from outfield to plate). Yes we will have the defenders field balls an throw, but only throw it 1/3 of the time. the rest come off the machine. Saves...
While you are recruiting girls for your team...you are also recruiting parents.... find that "rec coach" who wants to help and give them a job.
As long as you have mentored the rec coach in your techniques. I have seen rec dad's say and show players the wrong method because that's how they...
Be very wary of parents helping out with stations. They may mean well but they likely will start instructing and chances are the instruction will not be correct.
We video hitters who are struggling and try to explain why if it is something mechanical. They do get a varying period of time to produce before we ask them to try the change. When they can see the difference (on video) sometimes they are more open to the change.
This works for defense also.
Have not run into this situation yet but I am sure it is coming. Local tournaments it may not be an issue, but let it happen in the state tournament a showcase or nationals and it could be very interesting.
How about born as males who are identifying as females ?
