My daughter went in 2015 and 2016 and found it very worthwhile. All of her target schools were there, including the school she ended up going to. The combination of skills/showcase events and multiple games over 2 very busy days keeps the girls focused, and the opportunity for significant and authentic face-time with coaches from all divisions is invaluable.

Older thread but I’m going to ask here instead of a new thread:

I had a question regarding the defensive showcase session at Headfirst. Are the players separated into pitchers, catchers, IF, OF? Could anyone comment on what metrics are measured for pitchers? OF? Or any other position group you’d care to mention?

Yes the players are separated out by position to complete on field drills. As far as metrics I can't speak to pitchers but all other players were tested for OH velo and 20 yd sprint time. Not defense related but Exit Velo was also tested

Kick-starting this thread so I'm not creating another about the same topic.

Just wondering if any families have any experience with Head First Camps. We're debating signing my daughter up for one on Long Island this summer. I know it's expensive, but I'd probably spend as much, if not more, on 2-3 camps at different colleges. Did you find it worthwhile?

DD attended in 2016. The best run camp we attended. Another thing that is just part of the recruiting process. She ultimately did not go to any of the schools that were there, but got the attention of several schools who followed her for a couple of years. Even a coach who was at an Ivy who then contacted her when she landed at another school. The Q&A's sessions were really good too.

If you DD is truly high academic and wants/can attend one of the schools, then its a must go to.

Mind if I ask which school?
I would say all of them. These schools need players! Where else can they get a concentrated group of super smart softball girls in one place? Our coach reached out to a certain coach to have them watch my DD. If your TB coach has a relationship with any of these schools, have them reach out to tell them your DD is coming. And most importantly, your DD needs to be communicating with these coaches BEFORE she shows up. Lots of great conversations between the prospects and coaches will be had at these camps.

My DD attended last year and made good connections with coaches that have continued through her junior year. This camp is two full days and my DD was pretty exhausted after it was over, but it was worth it. You need to make sure that your DD is interested in the schools attending though as they are all high academic and mostly D3 schools. Some of the girls we know that went to this camp and got recruited from one of these schools ended up backing out because they received very little financial support as they don't offer athletic scholarships and in some cases academic merit is not offered or is very small compared to their cost.

Not offering academic monies is true for the Little Ivies for sure. @Vertigo can speak on this. DD's school offered lots of academic monies but it was nearly unreachable since they were giving it to those kids that would have gone the Ivy route. 34-36 ACT. They will be moving to D2 so athletic monies will be there soon enough.
