Good question and one that every parent battles with on whether to move up or not. IMO its always best to evaluate her on an emotional level. Move your DD up to a more competitive level if the player can adjust and handle it, but if there is any doubt leaving her in the 8U and working on all the "little things" and fine tuning what needs worked on would be the best. The problem that we run into is whether or now we feel we are going to advance our players as quickly as we feel they can. That's the beauty about this sport is that the players never really peak until their mid 20's.
Softball is a game of failure. If she understands that failing is part of learning and has the ability to learn from those mistakes I would say move her up........especially if you know the coach will be able to continue her softball skills at a higher level rather than letting her struggle with a less than successful coach.
