Have to remember coaches are just advisors, and it's ultimately the player that does the thing. Players should (be coached to) take all advice with a grain of salt, and if it's not working, or doesn't feel right, or they have a better idea, they should voice it.

it sems to me that anything a coach is looking to teach should be tried by that coach first to see how it feels and works.

When I make suggestions on mechanics, I tell them to try it my way a few times to see if it feels better, and if it doesn't, I'm fine with them going back to the way they were doing it.
