So you're reasoning is paying more is a deterrent... even though there are some eighth graders that are darn well worth taking a look at! ( up incoming Talent)

The players can go to the same College's camps in different age brackets.
The camps are called something different but

At the 12U USA AAG, a girl jacked a ball about 230 feet off a tee and then hit 64mph in the pitching speed contest. Gasso did the initial speech, so she may have seen it.

If it is the girl you have mentioned before from Iowa, then Gasso actually knows her pretty well already. As do many of top coaches.

Something about 90+ career home runs and mid 60s in 12u seems to draw attention.

I just read a twitter post from a player who said she has attended 45 camps. She posted many pics and videos from a bunch of them. Some are high level D1 and others not so much. Casting a very wide net is an understatement. Imagine the costs to attend, travel, hotel, gas. Probably more money than just playing on her TB team.

Team camps for 8th,9th graders can be useful as well in terms of gauging interest and planning for the next few years. Often college coaches will tell the TB coaches who they were impressed with, etc. Of course the player has no control over whether their team is invited to one of these..
