The important thing about these cases is that they are seeing the light of day. I'm not convinced it is more prevalent now than in the past. Information is so easily accessible that news events that happen far apart all seem to run together. Hopefully that results in a situation where victims are more likely to come forward.

I think that every case should be the same. The coach/teacher is suppose to be the adult.

I couldn't disagree more with this statement. Cookie-cutter laws and sentences are wrong and certainly do not belong in a alleged democracy with a supposedly fair judicial system. Judgement should fit the crime.

This country will never be great again until the apathetic electorate get their collective heads ouf of their asses and abandon socialism and take responsibility for their own lifes.

Or was he a manipulative little brat at 11? I grew up with a kid like that and have run into kids like that and their attitude had nothing to do with abuse, sexual or otherwise.

It is a hard thing with which to deal when children are involved, especially since all the sheeple have a tendency to jump on the band wagon without a bit of knowledge or real evidence. I think the sad part is the justification to jump on that bandwagon. Of course, it is a tragedy when someone does assault anyone. I think it is equally sad when it is found that accusations were false, very few people are willing to stand up for the accused regardless of the innocence. People just drop their like they see nothing and move on. Forget the fact that someone falsly accused very likely loses their home, family and basically, their life in general.

Yes all you said could be true.

People have been accused of child abuse when they were innocent and are victims of overzealous investigators and district attorneys and yes it ruins lives. That is why coaches, teachers and others need to make sure they are not put in a situation where they could be accused.

I noticed this man’s mother going into the jail after I posted the story and look to see if he was in jail and he was. He is charged with Obstruction of Law Enforcement and Probation Violation. I looked and he has been in this jail 28 times, I don’t think anyone can say if this had not happen to him if he would have been a model citizen. According to the investigator it really messed him up at the time.

The victim is in jail and the aggressor is free after paying her debt to society.

One teacher accused after a long trial from our area and made national news was found innocent sued the accuser’s family in civil court and won, the last I heard because of her fame in the case she had a national radio talk show.

Edit to add:

The way I look at if by taking time to post some of my experiences and knowledge about abuse, if it keeps one kid from harm it is well worth the effort.

I know this trainer. ...

He trained one of my players this past year and trained one of the teams in our travel organization (that I've since left for having moved). His wife is a respected hitting/pitching instructor at this facility and gave a couple of lessons to my daughter a couple of years ago. I feel terrible for her. I didn't know the trainer well, but saw him frequently at this facility, which is one of the 4-5 best known fastpitch academies in metro Atlanta. I also know the owner very well and like her a lot. She's worked hard to build that academy from scratch and has a good name all over. This place has helped train many D-I players. They must be devastated. And I haven't even discussed the impact this has over the victim, which is the worst thing. DJD.

MTR, good morning. You don't feel that a female offender should receive the same punishment as a male, for an identical crime? Around here, it seems that women get off with a slap of the wrist and men do years in prison.

The amount of victim blaming in this thread is horrific. 11 years old and possibly his fault? Or a 29 year old having sex with a 16 year old and it 'could be' a false accusation. The stats on false accusations in rape cases are less than any other crime.

In your face
False accusations in rape are the lowest at 7%. But not too far from others, false accusations of child abuse 9%, domestic violence 10%.

Basically saying 1 in ( about ) 10 are false.

Showing the wife this thread last night, and we talked some about the 16yo case. She threw in that probably a few of "these" 16-17yo cases are probably girls from busted homes or problem homes. They are "lost" teens wanting any way out of their current situations. We never know if abuse in their own homes have led to such behavior. ( if she had seduced the man )

Now my reply, I told her that I'm sure there are cases in which she is correct. But, a good man has a choice not to get involved, not to pull his bat out and swing. I don't care how cute she is, she is not holding a gun to his head making him do anything.

The Alabama law needs to be changed for sure.

As far as equal punishment? I'd like to see a law that breaks down charges and jail time according to victims ages. The younger the victim the more progressive jail time.

Just an example: rape jail time

17 ten years
16 twelve years
15 fourteen years
13 sixteen years
12 eighteen years
11 twenty years

( you get the point )
