WHOOPS! I missed that last move.
Kelly and Francesca cannot both be on defense at the same time PLUS Francesca did not have another re-entry to use.
I'll have to run through DP/Flex options later.
EDIT: Yeah, need to know more information about who batted/didn't bat the first 5 innings.
MYTH:
Amy
Betty
Carly
Diana -- F1 F6
Elaine
Francesca -- F6 Kelly F1 Francesca F1 Kelly F1
Gale
Hermione
Ingrid -- DP
Janie -- Flex/RF
Looks legit under NFHS. Every player has a re-entry. That is literal. A sub entering is not a re-rentry.
Starter goes out:
Sub goes in...
I don't disagree that the superior version hinges on the hinder/impede clause. However, the rule is written for the lowest common denominator of umpire . . .
That is what they are trying to fix. Rather than relying on the opinions of thousands of different umpires with varying levels of training and interest about what could-a-should-a-might-a, the attempt of most rules is to make it quite clear and simple:
1.) Was the fielder between the runner...
Also illegal in NFHS Baseball. Baseball allows one-way communication from the DUGOUT to the CATCHER only. Communicating to the pitcher would be illegal.
Well . . . I'm not saying I like it . . . or that I necessarily agree with it.

It wasn't batted, it was a strikeout. R1 and R2 with 1 out. The plate umpire hesitates due to the runners running, but then clearly signals the batter is out. The rest of the play is live.
Disclaimer (because this needs some context): this was the high school my kids went to and that my daughters played for. I've talked about some of that history in various posts on here. The school cannot attract any quality coaches because of a long history of local personal politics that...
Here it is (middle infielders, my mistake):

Lindsay also talks about the obstruction angle.
It isn’t a matter of what the fielder does or does not do or who yells “I got it!” the loudest. It is a matter of who the umpire believes is making/most likely to make the play.
As @marriard said, plays like that are definitely HTBT (had to be there), so the best we can do is explain the logic...
