Sluggers, you have reminded us all again that there really is no future in softball and that we need to keep this in perspective that these girls/women need to think about what they will be doing for the rest of their lives and plan accordingly.
There is a future, not just in American fast pitch. You need to be at the top of your game, but I know a number of people who make their livings playing in Japan and Europe.
It is a hard life and isn't glamorous. But, Cat Osterman has been coaching successfully for years. Taryne Mowatte is coaching at the college level. I am sure there are others.
Most men don't make it professionally, either. Very few do, in fact. But, persevere and there is a spot where you can be happy. One of my former LL players, was only a marginal baseball player and was even worse at basketball. He decided to get a teaching degree and coach. It took him several seasons of taking every terrible job that was offered to him, but he finally got a HS basketball position.
