RECREATION

* Former Kankakee-area resident Steve Ekhoff opened an indoor baseball and softball training facility chain, Extra Innings, in Bloomington this month. The grand opening is at 9 a.m. Saturday with an appearance by former Chicago Bandits fastpitch softball star Jennie Finch, who will speak and conduct clinics.

Ekhoff, a Crescent-Iroquois High School graduate, played baseball for Parkland College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis before playing semipro baseball. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from University of Missouri-St. Louis and worked in marketing for DePaul and Northern Illinois universities.

"I have a very strong passion for the sport and want to help other athletes succeed," said Ekhoff in a press release. "My goal is to assist central Illinois in becoming the hotbed for baseball and softball."
