My 8yo started playing this year. She's pretty strong (55", 73lbs), and played the rec season with a 28/18 Easton alloy bat. She made the All-Star team, and is developing a more compact swing. I was a little leery about spending $100-ish on another 28" bat because she's been growing a lot (3 pairs of cleats since March). Over the past 2 weeks, I've been having her try some of the composite bats of her teammates (Easton Synge 28/16.5 and 29/17.5, TPS Mendoza 29/17, DiMarini Bustos 29/16). Not surprisingly, she liked the Synge 29 best. I'm hoping it lasts through Fall Ball - LOL

The Easton Synge is a nice little bat, the drop 11.5 makes it a versatile bat for young girls. Keep an eye on EBay for it, I'm a bat junky and have the Synge saved on my searches. I've seen the go for $40 or so.
I have no patience, so I pulled the trigger - $90.
My girls fav bat this year is the Easton FS3.. 27/15.5 It has a fairly meaty midsection compared to other lightweight bats in the same size..
Her other bats are :

My daughter is 56" 85lbs and swings a Dimarini Bustos half-half 29/17 -12. She got around with it pretty quick and hit some bombs, I was thinking aobut moving her up to a 30 for next spring, butI dont want to mess with her bat speed. You really dont need the expensive composite bats at this age.
I second the demarini bustos bat. It is a really good bat for girls who are not quite physically stong enough to swing the heavier bats. I believe the drop on them are -13. I think they are discontinuing that bat and I've seen them on sale recently for between $60-$70.
