    BU positioning

Using your numbers there is a 90% chance of a play at first. From C slot, I'd say that I have a 90% chance of making the correct call at first. But the inverse of that is from A or B slot, I have a 10% chance of seeing all the action on a close tag play at 3B. Plus as others have mentioned, a...

D1 pitcher wearing mask in game

Lol, I was going to mention that I've noticed in the pictures that UF appears to have a cage on every helmet this year. Losing Schutte apparently help to change his mind last year.

    Might have to cancell practice!

Yea. I'm done with this. Team had to cancel our first outdoor practice due to 3 inches of snow on the ground in the morning.

    Batting T's/ee?

    Video taping

Hey that wasn't softball! J/K Nice shots. Great another item to look out for.

    Softball scenery

We moved from Florida to Virginia in October, so we have a severe case of cabin fever. I've been itching to get on they clay for two months. Hopefully we'll be back on the fields in a couple of weeks.

    Team bats?

I'd look at 2012 Stealth 31/21. Just bought one off eBay for $145 including shipping, I"ve had great experiences with the seller llcoach23. For 10U I'd consider a Zephyr or similar -12 for some of the smaller girls.

Things You Wish You Had Spent More Time On At Practice...

Nice list Oswego. Thanks. That made me think about the intentional walk. We were reminded that we had never practiced this, in a must win game in the Babe Ruth World Series this year. Up one run in the sixth inning with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd . We call time, since we didn't have a...

? About Pitcher position being in batting order

A good hitting pitcher can and will hit up and through college. Looking at UF, their two main pitchers are Hannah Rodgers and Lauren Hauger. Lauren is in the batting lineup everyday, regardless of her pitching, playing 1st, or DH. Hannah on the other hand only pitches. Just depends on the talent...

    Travel Programs in No. Virginia

Thanks everyone. I'm still figuring everything out with the transition, but I'll be contacting those who offered to help soon. Can't believe it was only a week ago that I was happy and perfectly content with where we are at.

How many games has your DD played over the last 365 days?

Wow, I shouldn't have counted that: Fall travel ball: estimated 28 (7 tourneys, about 4 games each) Fall rec ball: 12 Spring travel: 33 (new team, 8 tourneys) Spring rec ball: 18 Spring all stars: 24 Approximately 115 games as a 12u. No wonder my life feels like its softball.

    Travel Programs in No. Virginia

So it looks like my family will be moving to northern Virginia in a month or two. Specifically near Reston or Fairfax. My DD's only concern was is there softball there? While I assured that yes they have softball there, I was wondering about any suggestions for organizations, teams and hitting...

Take the signal from the catcher standing in back of the pitching plate

One thing to note is that this is not universal for all rule sets. I know that Babe Ruth rules require that the pitcher take the signal with two feet on the pitchers plate. For the first offense the pitcher should be warned, the second offense the pitcher is removed from pitching for the game.

    Hard contact... obstruction? ejection?

Basically yes. She needs to avoid hindering the runner progression. That could be running through the bag or rounding it. In that case if the runner messed up and rounded using the backside of the bag then yes the 1B needs to give up that area. Of course that starts to look more intentional in...

    Finally beating that "One" team

That is so true for both team and individual psychology. During my DD's first year of TB she struggled. Then during the first game of the 5th tourney of the season she faced the same pitcher that struck her out for her first AB in TB. She ended up grounding out in the AB after 12 pitches and...

    "Run her over!"

Same here as Sparky. If the umpire would make an obstruction call without contact, I would say avoid the contact. But since most umpires won't call OBS without contact, you need to make some when it is clearly OBS.

    Hard contact... obstruction? ejection?

The ejections would be hard to tell without watching the plays. Without seeing the plays, then I'd have to say that the actions of the runner would have to indicate an intent to injury. Leading with the shoulder, elbow, etc would be a quick ejection. Continuing to run at full speed and/or...

    Incidental contact vs. Obstruction

First, it should not require contact to obstruct and/or interfere. But with that being said, I'm having to teach the team to make the contact necessary. 1 - Sounds like obstruction. 2 - Seems likely, but more of a had to be there play. Rules for obstruction by the defense or interference by...

Interesting Obstruction in HS Championship Regional Game

The runner should have been out at around the 27 second mark of the video. Both were on third at the same time. Plus she step on third so that should have cleared the obstruction, so the out should have mattered. So I guess 2 outs on the same runner on the same play?

    WCWS - the Final 8

Well, when sitting in the stands for the first regional game and you realize that UF only has two subs... I knew right then it wasn't going to be UF. At that time we had no idea what happened.
