I worked closely with a DI Power 5 program in an administrative role, coached high school varsity (stopped after my wife and I had our daughter), and started giving hitting lessons a little bit more than a year ago. I had always given free lessons until my wife told me I had to start charging...
This is a cool story. We hear a lot of people complaining about high school ball. Embracing difficult situations at different levels of play can make us better teammates and leaders. Huge credit to this player, and the international girls giving softball a try.

Great question. I'd be curious to see some of these responses as well. I'm sure like many things it depends on the coach doing the recruiting. With so many camps doing at lest some type of metrics these days, I think it's becoming yet another tool, although it still seems that the name on the...
If she's verbally committing she'd be doing so to the coaches. She'd pick up the phone, or go to campus, and commit. She can call them any time she wishes, much like any other recruit. They can't contact until they are allowed to do so.
I think Buttermaker's advice on the lower half will automatically make her more explosive. I also think that explosiveness can be a mindset. Kaa...BOOOM! or Kaaa....Pow is not just timing but a mindset to be explosive. I honestly think you can't be afraid to strikeout or miss pitches. 1-3 with a...
While this kid is only 10, this guy (who I've never stumbled on before today) explains posture and getting into the ground more pretty well. Just be careful that it doesn't create squishing the bug but there's some good takeaways here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Pw3RdNjrI
I think her stance is fine and in many ways I think the front leg is a no-teach other than to be certain it isn't collapsing and that she's hitting into a firm front side. I think if she's more explosive with her lower half (back leg) driving to the ball that such an action alone would get her...
Just what I wrote above and to put it even more simply, I'd like to see her go from smooth to explosive. It's not a huge thing but I'd like to see a lot more "boom" than smooth, but that may because the video looks to be in slow motion as well so my critique in that regard probably isn't fair.
First of all, she's doing some good things. One of the biggest shortcomings of her swing that I see is her stretch/scap pinch or whatever you want to call it is very minimal and her back leg drive could be more explosive. With that said, Chamberlain exhibits just as little stretch/pinch on her...
I know now the Chamberlain video wasn't intended to be a joke but in some ways it's instructive. If you took the jersey off and she was unrecognizable we'd be picking her apart. Heck, I've seen some of her videos on Facebook absolutely destroyed. People can nitpick others to death and when you...
I've posted this story on several other threads but I'll never post it enough on high school-related threads, especially those critical of the high school experience.
I worked with a Big Ten program in an administrative role and started coaching at a private high school (about 650 kids) in a...
I'd suggest you go to the technical hitting board and start learning from reading a lot of their posts. I'd also suggest you find a highly recommended hitting coach in your area.
She has a number of significant issues and really needs to start from scratch.
Two things she has to fix very...
Saw this as part of a blog post once. It was a satirical look at travel softball but I cracked up:
Mack: Well, first the umpiring was just awful and our coach is absolutely clueless.
Butch: I thought you just switched teams to play with this coach because he played in the majors for the...
