We've all been there.
My first day of coaching in 2016 went like this:
Brand new high school team at a school in its third year of existence. It started as a K-8 school, then added 9th and 10th graders in the subsequent years. My DW is a teacher at the school, signed up to coach the team...
In NFHS at least, yes, there is. Or at least for all practical purposes there is since it's the most common example of when this would occur.
8-10-2a - "The offense or defense may use either the white or colored portion on any force out attempt from the foul side of first base."
So, we know...
Umpires need better training. On the first play, you didn't indicate which base the BR touched. If she touched the white base, that's interference. There's no case for awarding her second base based on the description.
I'm filing a special report on the plate umpire because my player got hurt...
Didn't read the whole thread yet, but others may have answered this by now, but it's a very simple answer: No masks have any kind of certification standards. NOCSAE doesn't stamp any of them.
So if your organization says "Wear this safety device" and parents go out and buy a mask and a kid...
Had an avatar from a school who had nobody on the roster with any possible variation of her name or any player with stats that were even close to what she claimed to compile...
I wonder if my comment about her commitment to the bit scared her off. I think that may have been her last post.
I thought about letting subs do GC this year, but I didn't want to deal with people complaining about the discrepancy between what I have and what goes there. I'd also have to go and edit MaxPreps if we linked GC to MP.
The stats matter to me for team/school record purposes. I realize they...
I would trust Antoine Walker with my life savings before I'd trust a parent to even hold my scorebook.
I still haven't had a chance to enter stats for a recent JV game (I was not there) because I have no idea what the hell the coaches were doing with the book.
You're wrong about this one. The rules specifically say that on a ball in foul territory on dropped third, the 1B can use the safety base. This is correct teaching to have the 1B go to the foul territory side to give the catcher a lane to throw. The batter-runner has to adjust. This is not on...
A pitcher wearing yellow pants is nothing at all like a batter wearing yellow batting gloves.
Also, I don't believe batting gloves are considered part of the uniform. I know at least with NFHS, batting gloves don't have to conform to other uniform rules (colors don't have to match, etc).
Here's another wrinkle: Shouldn't this play also include a ball on the batter?
Rule 6-3 Art. 2 says "The catcher shall return the ball directly to the pitcher after each pitch, except after a strikeout or putout made by the catcher, or to play on a base runner."
The batter is not a base runner...
Nobody gets $15 million. The largest bonus ever went to Paul Skenes this past draft at $9.2 million.
Most guys get a bonus that's a nice lump sum, but it's hardly life altering, especially considering the actual pay is so low. Even a million dollar bonus isn't something a 21-year-old can make...
Since the 73rd pick in the draft is going to be toiling away in the minors for several years before making it, if he ever does, that signing bonus is making up for him agreeing to make less than minimum wage for a while.
Love these. Some don't really apply to our situation, but I agree nonetheless.
Our JV team always has about 6-8 new players. While our program is pretty healthy (we're 1A in size, but this year we're playing 2A to get more local competition), we're not at the point where every girl trying out...
I find it interesting that the hip and shoulder are the same type of joint, but shoulders are typically much harder to bounce back from. I suspect it's the lack of stability compared to the much bigger thigh muscles/glutes, but I'm just speculating.
Your last line is the best though. A benefit...
Yep. And I didn't even know I was actually injured. I thought it was just a normal little groin pull. My suspicion is that it was a minor tear and over the years it got worse until it started to actually affect me.
Hey, I can speak to this one!
I got a torn hip labrum surgically repaired in 2020. But here's the catch: I actually tore it in, I believe, 2013. I was trying to ice skate, started to slip, caught myself and felt a painful pull in the groin area. I remember saying that it was going to hurt...
I don't know if I buy this because the rain stopped very shortly after the whole thing got out of hand. I don't expect umpires to be meteorologists, but a quick check of a weather app could tell you if it might be a small but heavy cell that's quickly passing through.
Regardless, when the...
I wanted to be a MLB player when I was 7, too. Eventually I realized that was never going to happen.
She'll realize that, too, and hopefully at that point she'll have softball as a potential option for furthering her athletic career. But if you push softball now, she may stubbornly decide not...
The part of me that loves softball and wants to grow the game wants to say "switch now," but everyone else here is right. There is no harm to her in sticking with baseball for now. She'll switch when she needs to switch. She may never switch, and that's fine, too.
Have you considered doing...
This catcher will not be catching anybody who throws really hard, so I'm not especially concerned about the thumb. I might check this one out. I can help break it in. I'm not a lefty throw normally, but I can be. The glove she uses now is actually my lefty throw mitt I have from when I hurt my...
