I didn't follow this routine to the letter, and really only had her do it a few times but it seemed to help. I would have her swing my old baseball bat (maybe 30-32oz.) 15 times, then have her swing a 32" broomstick 15-20 times, then go to her game bat 15-20 times. Repeat that 2 or 3 times and...
Try this website. It worked for my 12 u. Adjust the weight of the bats to fit your daughter's size.
I have also had my daughter hit crabapples off the batting tee (the object is to have her obliterate the apple) just be sure to have her were glasses.
Bat Speed Routine
What bothers me are the umps who are overly exuberant when ringing up 10 and 12 yr old girls on called strike 3's. They watch too much MLB and think that's the way they should do it too. Jerks. I wonder if they practice in the mirror at home?
Thanks again Wellphyt, Yes I have explained to her why we're working on this and I think she's beginning to "feel it". We will continue working on this and try to tone down the front leg movement in the upcoming weeks, she hit well in tryouts the other night and is starting to pull the ball more...
Thanks Wellphyt, that is the video I was referring to. We went back to the field tonight and worked on it again and she hit her first ball over the fence (she was pumped) she hit it out to dead center 185 to 200 ft. I was standing slightly off to her right about ten feet away laying them in to...
thanks to all for replying, the coil/uncoil move has been on the top of our list of things to work on since the season ended, I've had her working off the tee doing the over exaggerated load before hitting ( I got from a Cal Ripkin video) and also soft toss all the while preaching lifting the...
Check out my dd's swing from this year, I feel she has a pretty good swing but she didn't drive the ball to the green that much this season, any tips to help us work on in the off season would be greatly appreciated.
I've been telling them basically what you said as far as loading with the pitcher in the 12:00 position, and stepping when the pitcher steps. As far a getting them to time the pitcher from the dugout, I would love if they actually paid attention to the game on the field long enough to do that...
I am a first year 12u coach trying to teach my girls to time the pitcher while they are waiting on deck. I am wondering if any other coaches use this method and if so, has it worked for you? Thanks
