My thoughts exactly. Many moons ago, when I was a pitcher, my coach would call it a chase pitch, not a waste pitch. Off the plate 3 inches or so. If they don't swing and it gets called a ball, that's fine.
My DD was trying out for a team mid-season (because of a coaching issue). So her tryout was a sub at a tournament. We told that coach we could only play on Saturday and wouldn't be available for Sunday. No issues at this point because it was short notice. So they proceeded to only play her...
This is the best thread ever.
I do GC from the 1st Base coaches box, because no one on the team knows how to do it correctly. There may be some disagreements whether something was an error or a hit, but I try to maintain proper information at all times. And for the record, my DD leads the...
I agree bmakj. My DD isn't yet in HS ball, but when she does, I doubt very highly she'll want to use school catchers gear. I'm not sure what her high school requires/doesn't require, but catchers gear comfort is as essential as cleats in my opinion.
I'll take it a step further, she has a...
I didn't read all of these comments, because it started just getting into a back and forth.
I agree with Marriard that they shouldn't be called 'gamettes'. It just feels disrespectful.
I agree with RADCatcher that the shorter timed games suck.
Indoors it makes a bit of sense though because...
Woohoo!! I got one right!!
Our one catcher has a big issue with trying to use her bare hand to catch the ball. Think the crocodile chomp 'use two hands' that you see in 8u.
My DD has gone to a few clinics with a guy that does pretty much what you're saying. His big thing is the glove leads the way. So on a ball in the dirt the hands go down first, then the knees follow. But he does not like the donkey kick either.
We do teach knees straight down
Tush needs to stay more upright on both catchers
They are both athletic, but posture needs to be addressed
Chest is fine on both.
I'm not saying that they're kicked back without runners on base. If anything all your doing is convincing me to get into a secondary position on every pitch. Maybe our catchers are too low in their stance in general and that is something we can work on.
The '08 (which full disclosure is my DD), is our #1 catcher and can throw from her knees. She's not prepared to throw as much as I'd like and that's why we started getting them into secondary stances. The '07 is fairly new to catching, so she just needs to learn the position more. She's just...
I had a conversation last night about the catching position last night, that I'd like opinions on.
Would you have catchers get into secondary positions with runners on base, or would you have them stay in their normal position? Our team struggles throwing runners out and I think they all sit...
I don't have time to read through all of the replies on this one, but I'll give my two cents as I've coached Hockey, Baseball and a little Softball as well.
If you don't give the girls already on your team a little motivation to try out, they'll always think they're good enough to stay on the...
