next to nothing probably, except for a rare few. but that Rapsodo guide is interesting. I doubt 4" is some sort of physical maximum, but 4" is probably pretty effective if you can pull it off reliably. I wonder what type of contact it yields? Is it a soft contact/fouled off type pitch? If...
sorry I phrased that poorly, I meant baseball pitchers can get a ton and softball pitchers can't get _any_ defies logic.
2-4" isn't nothing fwiw, but maybe it's not worth pursuing or not enough to get swinging strikes. Or maybe it just hasn't been absolutely maximized the way baseball pitches...
I don't think sweepers are thrown from a different arm angle, not just in part because you're trying to deceive.
And I'm not convinced softball pitchers "simply can't". If the argument is it's really tough to get enough movement to make trying to learn and incorporate the pitcher over...
a softball and a baseball, over hand and under hand are not different enough that baseball pitchers can throw a pitch with a ton of horizontal break and softball pitchers can't. That defies logic imo.
Even a ridiculous 500 IP limit would make every single parent and player think about a limit "Oh, but I'm already a little sore, threw on the side yesterday, am a little on the smaller side" etc. It puts it on their radar.
That's a good one, and it's a common complaint of MLB gear too from what I hear. It's probably too late, but I'm gonna make a point to bring it up at our pre-tournament meeting on Tuesday. (I'd also like to suggest names UNDER the number for our travel jerseys)
My latest random pet peeve...
They know nothing. You take for granted what you know, they don't know it. what a "tag" is. force plays. the foul line (if it exists) what's it for?
4-7 is a wild range of ages though. That's pre-K through 2nd grade. That's kids that can barely lift a bat with kids that could hit a thrown...
Well the runner had long since crossed first, but we're trying to reinforce the "get the ball, touch the bag" instinct. Just a good reminder that sometimes when we say "field the ball, touch the bag/tag the runner" we might need to be a little more specific.
Even if they do, broadcasts aren't designed to show a lot of the defense stuff. But if you follow along on the MLB Gameday app, they have a live 'field view' which shows you every single player (tiny graphic) moving in real time. Can be useful to show kids that "look, even on that lazy fly to...
Coach defensive responsibilities start and end at Matrix like moves to avoid comebackers in coach pitch games. (yes, I recently fell on my rear doing this)
imo, it starts with just explaining a force vs non force, and what the runners are even trying to do. Reinforcing even basic coverage...
My conversations are way on down at the other end of the spectrum. These are like, kid kids, most of them still believe in Santa kids. But it's interesting to see how/who responds, is actually listening and who might be listening but isn't really able to translate what you're saying into what...
more "natural" motion or not, doing anything like that 230 times (plus warmup) in a row makes me nervous, strain wise.
Pretty impressive though. That's 3 pitches per batter. There were a couple of 3,4 5 pitch innings. including the 17th and 18th. Feel like you gotta take some pitches at...
