unless physical abuse of some sort, also wouldn't walk out in the middle of a game. Did have one of my kids coaches say to us in the middle of a game that our kid's error cost the team 2 runs. Had some words with the coach Monday evening after the tournament. He apologized but damage was done...
Great feedback on having strategies at multiple levels and the recruiting timelines. Regardless if athletic money is involved, it just is frustrating to not know how much you might have to shell out for your kids education. I'm trying to temper my kids expectation too.
Yes- i discovered this page a while back. Very helpful with a lot of info regarding the recruiting process but would like to hear more anecdotal experience of those getting offers and understanding the financial piece.
I think you are a rare gem- you seem to have great self awareness for your DD's skill level and desire to play. As the girls get older and if there is a real desire to play more competitively, it can get ugly real fast when it appears there is favoritism for the coach's kid who doesn't appear...
We are still very early in the process. DD is in 8th grade but committed to her that we would go maybe 1-2 this summer and fall, depending on distance and cost. She has taken the PSAT as her school encourages them to start taking it at 8th grade.
I'm in process of deciding with DD which college camps to attend in the summer, fall, etc. While researching, I'm finding out more and more that the scholarships given out to softball athletes are minimal in value, in comparison to total cost of attendance. My kid isn't a D1 blue chip athlete...
Appreciate your comments but what do you expect the commentators to say? "... Hey folks- look at this mediocre pitching from a 12 yr old rec team! They are doing good despite not being a top Triple Crown Alliance team!!" When I'm watching 10-14year olds play in this tournament or even in a pgf...
I think everyone knows that Little league is generally local Rec and travel ball teams, in particular 'national' teams are teams with big rosters from kids all over and parents who can afford to send their kids to daily lessons. Little league is where most girls start out. My DD played both as...
Ditto the previous comments! Who cares if it's not PGF - good fun experience for the girls and that's all that matters. Softball will come and go whether or not it's PGF finals or not - great memories for the girls!
we have done it before. Great for 12U and younger - fun experience but would not do it for my DD older than 13u. At the older age level, I'm saving my money on taking my daughter to less expensive college camps just to get more experience. When she gets to HS age, then we will start focusing on...
If paying $1k for a SAT prep or ACT prep would potentially save me more than a $1k per year in tuition/fees via scholarships, I say the prep courses are well worth it. So im pushing DD to make sure she takes the tests. Granted, she doesn't have test taking issues like some kids have - but im...
