Gets discussed here often, the radar gun is only as good as the highest number. I've always sided with if you throw mid-60's in HS your K's need to reflect that. If you claim you/she throws mid-60's you don't give up 6-8 hits a game with 3-4 K's.

My DD sent me a picture last year of the radar gun registering 58 and then sent me a video of her laughing and explained how she had sneezed into it. :ROFLMAO:

i have photo of my DD holding a Smart Radar used to track her exit velocity. It was 70mph. I often post that when people ask how fast she pitches.

So that is from the actual camp held at the Pennsbury Showcase. You don’t have to play in the Showcase to do the camp. It is run by NFCA. The pitchers on that list range from C level teams to true National level teams. That tourney draws teams from all over the country so you will see a handful of top talent teams there, especially top East coast teams.
This was from 2019 and looks like most of the girls were 2020 and 2021 grads with a few 2022 and 2023. Out of about 80 girls looks like there were about 6 that hit 60+ with looks like 63 being the fastest by a 2023 girl from South Jersey Mystics named Lisa Miller

Yep, and just glancing at the names I know of one pitcher on that list who currently plays mid-major D1 - she was not one of the ones consistently hitting 60+ at that camp.

We miss you @BT3100 !

I know a few girls on those lists. One of the few who was just over 60, I would have said throws in the mid 60s, goes to show the perception vs reality gap.

Our HS’s #1 pitcher last season is on the list, 51 mph. She won a lot of games. She’s now a freshman on a top 50 D3 team.

Interestingly enough in-person and on TV I’ll see some pitchers pitching who I would say look faster than they truly are, and vice versa. Not sure what causes that perception but I assume it is their motion. A lot of the very smooth, less explosive pitchers surprise me with their velocity.

That is why you see 14 columns on discuss fast pitch. Lol. Some people are just going to trust their perception over reality no matter how much evidence to the contrary.
The other reason is 10u has 11 year olds 12u has 13 year olds.

Okay, let me rephrase my statement. Throwing 67 with any kind of regularity and movement at 16 is exceedingly rare, if it happens at all. Can girls hit that speed? I suppose, but again, it's rare, even at Nationals. I see a lot of people claim to have seen it, but a lot of the radar guns could be grandpa radar.

Full disclosure: my daughter has hit 64 in practice on the Pocket Radar a grand total of two times. Neither of them were strikes, so while I have that as her top speed, I always preface it by saying "She's hit 64 on the PR." In games, she lives between 60-62, with the occasional 63 on her riseball. Even her 63 is rare, probably 3-4 per game. She plays for a National 16U team, so we see a lot of top competition.

I've caught my Jugs machine as fast as it goes, which is 70 MPH from 43 feet. I nearly soiled myself because it looks like it was shot out of a gun. The fastest ball I ever caught was a 91 MPH fastball in a summer league in college. I was *not* a catcher, but I agreed to warm up a pitcher before a game. This kid could throw a 12-6 curve that made the fastball look even faster. After that experience, I went back to playing RF.
Thank you for that laugh! I’m now going to set the jugs up and go try and catch 60mph. May I don’t want my DD getting to those speeds!

Too many horror stories of parents catching their daughter's pitching workouts and missing pitches and getting injured by the ball.

Warning on catching machine pitches~
Note that often the ball flying out of a pitching machine has a much higher rotational spin rate and that can be Troublesome if not prepared.

Be careful and wear a mask!
