We do drills where you load up and then swing in the command drill. Never seen a hitter start from FYB, the position Julray and STD are suggesting as the launch position.

They both do the same thing, you've just got different times in their swings that you're trying to compare. Vladdy is starting to TTB, where Bo is still loading or tipping his.

You might be interested in Bo's and his pop Dante's description of barrel path, and using the hands correctly to achieve it...

You'll note, that they too are pro "behind the ball" getting the barrel on plane earlier, and against all of the "swing down" stuff also.

The difference between the two approaches is where you get on plane. The modern style tries to get on plane deep and turn into the ball, the old school swing down gets on plane but the plane is established out front with the bat in lag position.

New School

Get on plane from behind and use shoulders to plane the pitch. And then turn like crazy into the ball (hopefully)

Old school

Mike is on plane and for the whole length through the zone. The HANDS get to the plane of the pitch. With the bat in lag position this allows Mike to be on plane for a long time and have excellent adjustability.

Each of those players bats is going to spend a long time in the path of the pitch. The difference in approach is Mike can use his hands and react where Josh is guessing and hoping to run into one (his words). Josh's stuff does work (Tewks) but it is not HOF. It is not Trout, Bonds, ARod, Gwynn, etc.

Try getting in the FYB position and swing down from there. Where does your weight go?

Are we talking about James Bond, or Barry Bonds? Because Barry says down to, and so do 95% of the other best hitters in the world. I listen to them.

Again get into the FYB position and swing down. If the FYB is the launch position you should have no problems.

Rather ironic that you use a clip of a drill that has the player learn to automatically TTB, and not at a single point in it do the hands "swing down" to anything. That's a good drill. 👍🏽

Yes it's a good drill.. Add in a ball and see if the hands and arms can support the goal that Bonds and others speak of and demonstrate .

Honest to god Shawn I am sick to death of people asking me to try this and swing down. It’s you who needs to try it. Get to FYB with good posture, don’t drive your rear leg to power the swing, use your midsection from that leveraged position and tell me what happens… or better again film it
