So if he dogged it down to first and didn't try for the hit then Keith would've called it a sac?

Exactly. That's why it's ridiculous to try and use intent as a measure for scoring a sac bunt. If you bunt and move the runner then I'm scoring it a sac. I'm assuming that if you bunt with a runner on base then the intent is to move the runner, regardless of how hard you "try" to get on base. I think people get a bit too literal with the "giving yourself up" idea.

I guess that would be the thought there. If the batter dogs it to first, they are trying to draw the throw, away from the other baserunner? Maybe just give the players a little red index card to keep in the back pocket when they leave the dugout. If they make an out and advance the runner, they can hold up the card to get a sacrifice.

"See, I meant to do that."
