Pitching stamina - "Going the distance"

Reading this when I get home today and having my daughter read it as well. She has only begun to play TB this year - and has really seen a difference in her pitching time. she has been the "A" pitcher for so long but in Rec Ball they limit them to 7 innings per two games, and practice was...

    Push/Stride Length

My daughter was diagnosed with "not quite scoleosis" - 16* curve at the bottom and 8* at the top - as much as she uses her legs/hips, she still gets a bit of a twinge in her back...and I think that's why she was pitching them high. I'll try to get a side video of her this weekend. She's got...

CrowHopping, Replanting, etc. - Not being called by Umps

i'm not coaching - BUT - I am the one pointing it out to the coaches - so i'll stop. It's just once a pitcher, now a pitcher's mom - we tend to notice these things and sometimes can't keep it to ourselves. :P And i wanted to add that our Coaches have never once made a huge deal - only brought...

    Push/Stride Length

My daughter has a tendency to go "up" instead of "out" with her motion - this has been a bone of contention for me... lol... she has improved immensely over the last year, and last night at practice I was really able to see why her pitches are a bit high lately - thought it was release oint, but...

    Future Teen Parent

I was hoping that this subject line meant something else! That is frightening being the parent to a 15 yo...first, I'd have her get a new doctor...secondly, well, the horse has already left the barn on that one...Third... the subject of insurance comes up - I think it's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

“Who is your Daddy, and what does he do?”

I'm a solo parent - meaning, I don't get any monetary support from DD's Father (my choice). So sometimes it's a struggle, but then I just don't buy Starbucks and we're back on track :P. But I work for a major technology company - so thankfully things are going ok. :) Plus her Gma and Gpa love...

CrowHopping, Replanting, etc. - Not being called by Umps

Thanks for the replies - Halskinner, that is a great point - two steps is the way to go when it comes to protesting. RubberBiscuit - I'm now singing your poem to "London Bridge is Falling Down"...hahaha I guess, knowing that we play "By the rules" should be sufficient. But sometimes I just...

CrowHopping, Replanting, etc. - Not being called by Umps

This is 14U travel ball, but I'm also seeing it at 16U level as well.

CrowHopping, Replanting, etc. - Not being called by Umps

Well, for the third time in as many tournaments, we've encountered a pitcher who blatantly crow hops or replants. We've called time out - asked the Umps and they still won't call it. Had an ump watching our game tell us that he would have called it for sure. So, my question is: Is this now a...

Lower back maintenance - A question to you cagey veterans of pitching out there.

My daughter was recently diagnosed with an 8* curve at the top and 16* curve at the bottom of her spine. This is on the cusp of Scoleosis - What has helped her is Yoga and core strength. Posture in everyday events - she's a typical teen and hunches - but using the exercise ball to do sit ups...

    At my wit's end

I do appreciate the insight and perhaps I wasn't as "detailed" as I should have been. When I say Situational - and Scrimmage - I mean I stop the play when a girl doesn't use two hands. I stop everything and hit repetitive grounders to someone that is not getting dirt in their glove. I work on...

Seeing more and more hitters set up like this

If they can get their bat up and ready to hit the pitch it shouldn't matter in my opinion. My daughter is sort of like that too and is hitting great. She has good bat speed though so I think it all depends on how quick of a swing they have to get it in the right position.

    At my wit's end

I've coached a few teams before at the younger levels and even the All Star Team, but I at the last minute was asked to take on a 14u team...I have girls from different leagues coming to play together for the first time. I have some incredible players, hitters, etc. But we cannot seem to win a...

Cranking the ball in practice but not in a game

My DD is going through the same thing - pitching machines in my opinion are the reason. The pitch is always perfect and down the middle - my DD needs more off speed, change ups, curve balls, drop, rise, etc. to really be able to connect. When she's up to bat with a live pitcher she tends to...

    Women coaching softball

I don't think its archaic thinking - men are much stronger in the upper bodies than women. Unless they are body builders, then all bets are off. We cannot throw a pitch as fast as a man in the same scenario...that's my point. And yes, teaching differently and acquiring the same results is...

    Women coaching softball

Last night I had a bit of a "standoff" with a male - he was trying to correct one of my players in the batting cage. Now, keep in mind his daughter is NOT on my team. He is NOT a coach. His daughter is a player on another team. Anyhow, he kept telling my player to change things that I had...

    Bigger Step

Thank you all! Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I have printed out the ideas and suggestions and will put them into play tonight. I will try to post a video soon. Thanks again!

    Bigger Step

My 13 dd is stuck at 45mph on her fast ball. (Granted 45 is pretty fast for the league she's in and she's quite accurate - but she wants to improve...so I'm all for that). I think it's because she still doesn't take a big enough step when she pushes off the mound. We've done most of the...

Help, Im not sure if I want to play softball anymore?

Yes, take a moment to really decide what you want to do - without any outside influences. You cannot do something day in and day out unless you enjoy it. Similiar to your predicament I worked at what was my dream job...for five years. And then things began to fall apart. My boss left, I was...

    Making an all-star team

We have try outs for our All Star Team - We have them each catch three fly balls - running from left to right, right to left and then in the middle. They make the throw to Second then third from the outfield. Then they take three or four hard grounders at Shortstop and throw to first. They...
