Amy, What type of flip video do you have and how do you upload it to the internet? jeff

    Barrel Turning

"I really like using the top hand twisting the handle to start the process of turning the barrel...it keeps the hands up and in place as the elbow slots...." Ray can you explain this a little more?

Ray, can you tell me more about this?

    Optimum Point of Contact

    Thank you for the explanation.

    Optimum Point of Contact

SL- What are the reasons for wanting to hit the pitch at a deeper point?

    When is the proper coil?

If you back the video up 3-4 frames it appears as though she is shifting her front hip forward and thereby shifting her weight. Is that just earlier uncoiling?

    When is the proper coil?

So are you beginning to uncoil a fraction of a second before your toe hits the ground or a fraction of a second after?

    When is the proper coil?

MTs I see what you mean. What i had thought of as the front hip shifting forward was actually the back hip thrusting. This could be an AHA moment.

    Weight Transfer

Wellphyt- If you perform a quick coil/uncoil do you find that the hips, in the young hitter, are opening prematurely and leaking the front knee at toe touch? In other words, do we need to tell the young hitters to hold the coil until toe touch?

    When is the proper coil?

FFS- Thank you for all your help. I guess the question I have is related more to the hip movement seen in these 2 videos. Is this something we should teach? In the Williams video, is she continuing to coil after her stride or is she just holding the coil or neither? Do we teach this hip...

    When is the proper coil?

FFS- Is that the total extent of the coil? Do we coil at all as we stride or do we just hold the initial coil until toe touch? And if we do continue to coil as we stride, does it stop at toe touch. Is there any resultant weight shift at toe touch or is all the weight shift done during the...

    When is the proper coil?

Ok so you're saying that we are coiling as we stride forward, do we continue to coil once our toe touches? If I am trying to feel the pressure in my rear foot as I coil against my rear hip, I have a much better sensation of tension in the foot if I keep my weight back until toe touch then begin...

    Exploring the cusp

FFS- "I’ve seen BM attack this issue using a bottom-down approach. His approach was to teach the lower body action, and for the rear hip action moving ahead of the upper torso to generate ‘lateral tilt’ … along with the accompanying “actions of connection”. BM showed that he could insert...

    Exploring the cusp

MTS "Grip pressure during the loading phase keeps the lower body from striding out too far and getting the body all strung out" Can you explain this in more detail. "Big part in all of this is knowing where the hands need to be and how to get them there. Once that part is figured out then the...

    When is the proper coil?

I have read what seems to be several different aspects of when the coil should be taking place and it may be that they are just extremes of the same concept, but I would like to hear some conversation on this. Do we coil as we load, as we stride or as we begin shifting our weight forward? Or...

Catching with a first baseman's glove

Any thoughts on the use of a first basemen's glove to catch? It seems like more catchers are using this, anyone have experience with a catcher's mitt vs the first basemen's glove?

    Opposite or same direction?

MTS, I find this information excellent, but am still having trouble seeing the forces and thinking of how I can explain it to my daughter. Is it possible for you to make a video where we can see your hands and you can tell us where the forces are applied?

    Opposite or same direction?

MTS, could you demonstrate the towel drill? Also did you do a lot of throwing bats and medicine balls with her? I see much of my daughter's swing in the original video. Finally, what do you mean you started with her front arm on her chest, why?
