NEW Boombah Defcon Chest Protector, Navy/White, Size 15.5" (Intermediate) - $55

New, never used. Bought for daughter thinking she'd grow into it but it's still too big for her. Sell for $55, including free shipping. Paid $70 for it. The attached photo is a stock photo from the Boombah site, included here to give an idea of the color and pattern. Can send a photo of the...

Catcher setup photos: Too far behind batter?

Agreed, that's the most common way I've seen it explained, and what DD's been taught. She did a better job this past tournament of focusing on her setup. Maybe still a full glove away from touching batter's back knee., though.

Catcher setup photos: Too far behind batter?

Yep. I've preached it from Day One, and she knows to set at the knees and is pretty good about it, but not so much at this last tournament. She said the coach was calling a lot of rise balls and my DD probably wanted to have her glove higher in order to have time to react and catch it from our...

Catcher setup photos: Too far behind batter?

She usually sets up in one spot and stays there unless a batter is way back in the box, then she'll move back. But then she may stay in that new spot for the next batter and not adjust for that new batter, who may be more forward in the box. I don't recall ever seeing her that far back from a...

Catcher setup photos: Too far behind batter?

Hearing your experience is helpful. You say you move back slightly for a lefty, but my DD's position seems extreme doesn't it? I'm chalking it up to lack of concentration in general, and not repositioning as needed for each batter, specifically.

Catcher setup photos: Too far behind batter?

The ball hasn't left the pitcher's hand yet in either photo, her arm is in her "set" position, before making any move to receive. Assuming the pitch was received directly into her glove location as shown, with no arm movement, do you think she is reaching? Top photo is no runners on, bottom is...

Catcher setup photos: Too far behind batter?

Any sound reason the catcher (my DD) should be set up this far behind a batter (first photo - lefty hitter), assuming batter doesn't have an extremely loopy swing? Even in the second photo (righty hitter) with the batter farther up in the box, to me she still looks like she could set up about...

    My Catcher-Beast

The first clip, the bullet to second base, reminds me of a Wasserman mantra: "To create velocity you must create resistance in a throw." Looks like your DD has terrific hip-trunk separation there. The right leg kick out she has after putting everything into the throw is something I've been...

How long should I expect leg guards to last?

Another thumbs up for All Star guards durability. 12U DD's new S7's just arrived today to replace her current S7's. Bought the old pair three years ago but they are still holding up very well, she just outgrew them. $118 all in was the lowest I could find.

    Batting gloves

Another thumps up for Spiders. DD has had a pair for a year, and loves them. Despite a few small holes she doesn't want to part with them.

Does your DD have a catcher specific pre-game warmup (12U)?

Thanks for this. Relatedly, I bought Wasserman's Catcher Strength Training E-book last year. Constantly encouraged DD to do a handful of the intro level stretches/exercises every other day. She protested ("it's boring!"), and lasted about a week. I think she'd be more inclined to block and...

Does your DD have a catcher specific pre-game warmup (12U)?

Would love to see DD long toss before games. In our smallish metro area I've never seen it done pre-game at the level (B) DD's played at previously in 10U/12U. DD's team last year would do it fairly regularly during weekly practices. She moved to an "A" team (again, for our area) a few months...

Does your DD have a catcher specific pre-game warmup (12U)?

Wow, your DD's commitment to this routine is impressive. I'd be happy if my DD signed on to 1/4th of this.

Does your DD have a catcher specific pre-game warmup (12U)?

In your opinion, at 12U, should there be an emphasis on a pre-game warmup for catchers, or is the general team warmup outlined below good enough for now? If your DD has a routine, please share it. My second-year 12U DD doesn't have one she adheres to, but I'm thinking she probably should...

    Catchers helmet/added concussion protection

Hope your DD recovers quickly. It would be interesting to know her thoughts on the Force3 once she's had a chance to try it on. Wondering if the extended mask, which in theory seems to be a great idea to me, hinders visibility at all when looking up. Did not see any photos of the inside of the...

    CF8 entire lineup hot?

FWIW, DD swung the -11 two years ago in 10U with great results. Last year for 12U, before I bought her a Ghost, she had both a lightly used 2016 LXT -10 and a CF8 -10 to swing, and she vastly preferred the LXT.

    New Gear Day!

That's a sharp set. And reminds me that after three years with her Vela legs it's probably (past) time to make sure DD's still fit properly. She just switched teams as well, with new color scheme, so ... Damn, these new gear posts always end up costing me money! Must scroll past them from now on.

    New Easton Helmet

Called Force3 today and spoke to one of the principals there. Was told they expect to have the youth size mask in the next few weeks (6 3/8 - 7 1/8). They had to wait for their certification, apparently. Only available in black for time being. No place near me to get my hands on one, but they'll...

    New Easton Helmet

The new Force3 helmet, "V2," has an interesting "raised cage" design. Theoretically, it would lessen impact force? I'd give this serious consideration if/when DD's Wilson Shock 2.0 breaks, but unfortunately there's no youth size offered for the V2. Aesthetically, I think the V2 is a better...
