No, it isn't like that at all. I am not interested in changing this player and will not coach her. She can listen to her hitting coach.

I asked her if she realized how she was missing the ball. (She was swinging under every ball.) Her response was that she has a hitting coach whom she is supposed to listen to and not the HS coaches. OK well, that won't go well.
Well that explains the disturbance in the Force I felt the other day...

With these types of players, do you try to make it known that the HS coach is the one they should be listening to or do you just pass on these types of players immediately?
To be honest, I am now a volunteer. I have the luxury to decide who I will work with. My help is not wanted by that particular player. I don't force myself on players. I'm an ex-expert.

I won't share much more about the HS season after this post. We had a short practice today and have a parent meeting tonight. We ask that parents make the meeting along with their child. The staff will be introduced and it is an impressive staff imo. We have two coaches who pitched in college and both did extremely well. One is in her D-I school's Hall of Fame. We have a former college catcher who holds all kinds of records at her former college. I coached both the pitcher and catcher who are in their college hall of fame when I was a HC. We have one other young lady who broke her college's home run record. We have one coach who comes a couple of times a week but has little children. She was a Dynamite HS and college player and is so intense that I get a kick out of watching her coach. I also coached her in HS. I am very proud of all of them. The HC has coached for over 30 years and was a great player in HS. Then, there is the old guy, me, who volunteers. Parents will be given handouts that cover almost everything they need to know including the process of communicating with the coaching staff.

Our practice today was outstanding. We have a practice where we explain drills to the varsity team, the expectations of approaching these drills, and the benefits of the drills. Then, we have players explain the drills to each other. We rotated players through the cages so that I could work with these groups. We alternated infield and outfield players so that we had continuity on the field. The best part for me tonight was when the players kept coming up to me and thanking me for tonight's work.

I wish everyone a great HS season. I don't know how we will be this year but I do know that this is a fun group to be around. That is half of the battle.

it's been a silly run.......realistically the COVID year we lost could have been another state title year, albeit not likely an undefeated one

if everything fell into place this year, DD2 could finish 76-0 with 4 titles (she's the only one to start all 56 games of the current streak)

Class C Maine is not exactly the pinnacle of the softball world, but we do ok.......
If she can pull that off, they'll write songs about her. ;)

As a senior my kids team was 18-10. She was the #1 pitcher who is now playing in college. I'll be watching closely their record this year. One mom of a JR told me how my daughter wasn't that good. Considering her awards, 2.30 ERA, 285 strikeouts senior season (close to 600 career - 3 years due to covid), an even .500 season batting average (.548 obp), I guess we'll see how they do without her.
