This is about two major organizations not wanting to play nice and pushing kids to pick sides versus doing what makes sense to make sure more kids play softball and stick with it longer. Having kids play with their schoolmates ONLY helps Softball in the long run. Not sure how ANYBODY can argue...
Yes, the "held back kids" are the reason they still have a year requirement in USA. It eliminates playing against the dunce that was held back 3 years and is 6'2" and 220lbs in 6th grade!

It's not about "will people gripe". It's about what makes the most sense. People gripe about everything, if that was the requirement, "no gripes" nothing would get done, anywhere, ever.
Having kids play with the same grades in school, makes the most sense. 1-3 months of age difference really...
