My DD had a verbal withdrawn... She isn't able to lie, or even shade the truth, so it was a tough tightrope. "You're one of my top schools" was a common phrase, and "I've verbally committed to X, but if things don't work out..." Honesty didn't hurt her, luckily.
I don't want to reveal the name for privacy reasons, but my DD committed this week to one of her top choice schools, with a guaranteed roster spot. Median ACT for this school is 34, and GPA is 4.0. I want to thank the posters here for helping us with the journey.
My DD looked at(and was...
We did Pennsbury Academic as well. While it got her on the list for Yale prospects, it was a total cattle call-over 250 girls, broiling hot, no shade and extremely intimidating. We did it once to get her stats(speed to 1st under 3.00) in the books, but she hated it, I hated it, and it was so...
So this is the life we've been leading-my DD has a 97 average and a 34 ACT and she is going "high academic". It's a tough ride. The reasons to do it are: loves ball and wants to play ball at a top college or university, where her softball skills could also make her more likely to be accepted out...
YOCOACH is wise! If your daughter breaks an ankle, and can never play after day 1, would she still be at the right school for her future? As a pitcher, she'll probably be able to still get offers in the spring of senior year-my DD is still getting them as a 2018...She has had a couple coaches...
The advise I always keep to heart is that if you had a career-ending injury day 2, would you want to be at that school? because for most of our daughters, softball isn't going to be a career. The college has to make then ready for a viable, financially secure future and that means the education...
I agree that a 29 is low. I am quoting Coach Herman directly. It definitely would be low for a player without truly outstanding abilities, or perhaps another "hook" like under-represented minority, first generation college attendence, or financially disadvantaged...However, the main point is...
Ok, so this is my wheelhouse. My DD is going NESCAC high academic. Coach Herman is great, strict but fair and honest. Has a bit of a dry sense of humor. She only recruits from her camps, and the few tournaments she attends. She can, because it's Williams, which is the number one rated academic...
NESCACS don't have merit aid. It's all need-based.
I suspect the Dec 1 date has to do with the ED2 deadline. As someone who has been working the NESCACs for softball for 3 years, getting in is not harder than getting to play softball. To do both is nearly impossible, as 2 of the schools were...
A lot of D3 schools are "looking for a few players to round out our roster" even in the spring of senior year. Find some schools that are a good fit, and then look at softball. I don't imagine she can get support, but a lot of places will be happy to have a girl who can play join the team.
Umm, none of the NESCACs offer softball or merit aid-it's all need-based(like the Ivies) and need-blind, so it shouldn't matter for money when you apply. HOWEVER the NESCAC teams all have "slots " and "tips". The slots all are given up at ED-the coach gets 3-4 players that have "adequate" scores...
For D3. there are only unofficial visits, and some are your DD alone, or it may be a group "unofficial" with a few other recruits. You may be offered at an unofficial, or it may be a simple "show and tell" about the program. Since lots of coaches prefer to make their offers one on one rather...
