Oh, and the Spring Games (https://www.thespringgames.com/) start in 8 days so I buy a month or two of FloSoftball.com subscription to watch the live streams.

Every day - 8am-10pm games at 6 or so complexes around Orlando, 2000+ games over 6 weeks from all levels of softball (D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO). You can see every level of the game - and all levels within each division.

I usually buy a month of Flo to watch Mary Nutter, etc.

What are you "must see" live games through the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite?
Washington vs. Alabama which is #1 vs. #2 or #2 vs. #1 depending on the poll you prefer. That can't be missed early season, but I am really looking forward to Washington vs. Team USA. What does the best in college look like relative to the best in the world? Why is that on ESPN3 rather than actual TV?

Because 99% of viewers don't want to watch softball and ad revenue and all that.

Yeah, I get the actual economics of it, but they have the UW vs. TT game on ESPNU at 7:00 am PT that morning. UW plays Team USA at 9:30 am, but that isn't on. Seems like that should be the game to broadcast.

Ok that is odd at first glance. NBC is broadcasting the Olympics. Wonder if Disney (ABC) is intentionally downplaying the USA team because of that and instead giving airtime to the college girls whose rights they own?

They announced on the 7 Innings Podcast this week that ESPN is going to be airing several of the tour games (mostly when they are playing SEC schools) so I don't think Disney is slow rolling Team USA because of the connection between the Olympics and NBC.

I will say I am a bit worried about the coverage we are going to get from NBC. Seems like Disney has the best play-by-play and color announcers who regularly call softball. I can see NBC having people calling the Olympics that know little to nothing about fastpitch. That will be a darn shame.

Surely NBC will bring in color commentators that are softball specific? They do it with much more obscure sports like Fencing and white water rafting, can't imagine that they wouldn't for softball?

I am sure they will. NBC spends way, way, way too much money on the Olympics to grab the beach volleyball crew to do the softball games. They may miss broadcasting important parts of the game to bring us a human interest story about the rescue dogs the weightlifting coach's uncle Al has been caring for, but when they do have the softball on they will do a good job with it. There will almost certainly be a former softball Olympian in the booth.
