Got one of those down the road. Baseball...new million-dollar complex...they're pretty good. 20+ wins per season
Softball...can't even get a new $700 pitching screen, lumpy outfield with bad drainage (smells sewer-y), hump at the edge of the infield that balls will jump 2-3 feet off, janky...
I have never understood the overly loud music before games. No one should have to yell. I tell our pressbox people to dial it back, which occasionally actually happens, but until a couple weeks ago I had never been to a game where it wasn't annoyingly loud. Some blessed soul had actually used...
Still pluggin away. The D has done some really impressive things the past several games. We're starting to see those second chance opportunities taken advantage of. The D isn't collapsing anymore, and there's determination on the kids' faces no matter what the score is. They're taking what...
From what I've seen and a lot of video, by 11th grade or so, most average pitchers with average genetics, average mechanics, and no whip, will peak in the mid 50's. Ones who started pitching late, such as my daughter, may not peak for another year. She's a sophomore and been at it for 4 years...
haha. I just wanted them to have somewhere to put the earplugs when we stopped using them, but they know me well enough that it could have been for anything, or nothing. But the fact that I had some of them scrambling to find practice attire with pockets amused me.
I'm always trying to get in...
If that's your price range, look into the mizuno supreme series. Or if you can go a bit more, look at the mvp prime. They're sold a dick's sporting goods. They break in very quickly and have a great pocket. I've used one for a few years, and we have a few girls on the team that have one. They're...
One day I had practice all to myself. I was tired of watching the girls not communicating, so I told them on the group chat to make sure they had pockets. Didn't tell them why, and they were all like "WHY DO WE NEED POCKETS!!!"
I brought them all foam earplugs to wear on the field. Then I...
I constantly see people recommending running players through stations. Some tee work here, some popups, some grounders, etc. I hate stations. Any time you get girls standing in any kind of line without 100% direct supervision, they'll goof off. Leave them alone and they'll goof off and whoever...
Some of these awful teams actually have good, knowledgeable coaches. There just isn't enough time to get kids up to speed in 6 weeks.
Rec is everything to a program. Just having girls show up to middle school able to throw and catch accelerates the program by YEARS. When rec was restarted in...
I've seen the ones from Dick's warp after one hit. I smacked one in old man slowpitch practice, and by the time it hit the ground it was wobbly. Throw only, or like...8U is the only safe place for them.
They are absolute turds. The surface breaks really easily if they hit a wall or something They get super slick and I swear the shrink a little. And they go dead really fast. They're like one step above one of the Dick's branded practice balls.
As far as I'm concerned, there is no other ball than the Dudley. Grippy and never go slick, perfect seams, durable, seemingly waterproof, and hardly lose any pop over time. We have Thunder Heats in the practice bucket that have been getting beat on for at least three years and are still better...
I think the ones I wore when I coached are NB 3000. I think I paid like 90 for them. Hard as rocks from day 1. Now I just use them for yard work, but I can't deal with them for too long. If I was gonna buy turfs again I would probably look into something more expensive, even if it's NB again.
